# of cats ?~

hey, this may be kinda noobie, but do the 7th gen coupes have 2 cats? I thought that they did...

but askin because the exhaust I got goes to the header, and the shop told me just to unbolt it at the cat on the header..
that's cool, but is there another one on the piping, that, when gone, will break some smog laws?

as far as i know the lx's only have one cat on the stock header. and no cat = illegal, at least in cali

Don't quote me, but the higher performance engines have cats with two elements, a primary and secondary NOx elements. These types of cats are usually downstream of the header pipes and not the header itself.

Now, as far as removing one, you will wake up your neighborhood friendly Check Engine Light if you try to mess with something that's computer-monitored, such as the cat.

haha, well, I don't think the b17a1 is classified as a "high performance engine" -_-

thanks for the quick response.. my friend's IS's greddy evo came with a cat on it, so I guess that's cause he has a higher performance engine.. that's why I was wonderin..

Try getting a header with a "high flow cat" - you will feel some gains (HP, TopSpeed, Kamakaze... Kamikaze, which has no cat.)

i had 2 catalyic converters on my 7thgen hx, one on the header and one under the car. im only using one of them now, the one under the car.
