Temperature Gauge not working

I have a 97 Civic EX Sedan. The temperature gauge is not working. It doesn't move at all.

Is there something obvious I should check before taking it to a mechanic?

The coolent temp sensor may be unplugged or bad I would check that.

The 1-wire temp sending unit, which is attached to a Yel/Grn wire, is located below the distributor. Unplug the unit and then use a piece of wire to short the free wire harness plug against the engine. Then turn the key to ON(II). Does the needle on the cluster temp gauge now begin to rise toward hot? If so, don't let the needle reach the max hot reading before you unshort the wire. Post the results.

It was the temp sensor. I replaced it tonight and my temp gauge is working again.

Thanks for the help.
