This, I believe, will be a great tool for the n00bs on the site. There are many intakes on the market and n00bs usually get confused. Lets help them and ourselves out and post your intake and your pro's and con's about it.


Please, NO arguing on how the stock air box is so much better then an eBay intake and such.
Just post your intake, and what you like and dislike about it, and what motor you own.
Also post about previous intakes you've owned and what you liked/disliked about them.

I will add everyones picture of intake + brand of intake on the second post to this thread. I would highly appreciate it if you posted WHERE you bought the intake from to help others out.

Generic intake w/ generic filter.
Cost: $40

I bought the intake at a "performance" shop a few miles down from my house. The intake isn't TOO loud, and gives off a low, deep throaty sound at acceleration and WOT.
I dont like how the filter sits on top of the transmission and real close to the VC. The intake also wasnt loud enough for my ricer tastes so I switched over.

Generic EX intake+45" elbow bend+generic filter.
Cost: $65

I bought this EX intake at the same shop and when paired with the 45 degree bend pipe, it is MUCH louder then the DX intakes. The noise "kicks" in earlier and has more of a "roar" at WOT. I also like how this set up places the filter farther from the tranny and closer to the headlight. Should be great for track days where I can remove the headlight and make it a CAI.

took the piece that comes off the intercooler on the intake side and used it as an intake piping..it works and i think it looks better than just a regular sri

AEM short ram intake.

Looks nicer IMO than stock intake, makes my engine sound a little beefier than a whiney sound. Really other than cosmetics and the sound - not much else to it that I have much to say about.

Had an AEM short ram on a d16y8 and hated it: annoying sound, and loss of low end power.

AEM V2 cold air intake with AEM by-pass Valve to prevent water into the throttle body

Pros : slight power gain and also engine sounds much better.
Cons : none that i can think of yet.

AEM CAI for a y8 fitted to a y7 motor w/y8 intake manifold.

Pros: decent power increase around 5k, cool sound at WOT
Cons: had to cut a hole for the pipe to go down behind the bumper, humming sound at idle.

Pros: more torque at around 2200rpm+ says the buttdyno and car breathes easier at higher revs, makes cool sound when you have it at WOT, filter that is reusable

Cons: none that I can think of... wait, one; big puddles are scary
