sports injection. it goes back to the 3rd gen days when all civics were carburated, except for the si's which had fuel injection.

Sport Injected is what it actually means...

I believe these are what these mean:

EX - Executive
DX - Deluxe

As for BMW...

they did the similar thing and used to have the 'iS' to show it was coupe...

i - 4 door injected
e - 4 door carb
iS - injected 2 door sports
eS - carb 2 door sports
iL - injected 4 door luxury long wheel base
iX - All wheel drive for E30 3 Series
iT - 2 door touring hatch (for 3 series) / all wheel drive for E39 5 Series
LTW - Lightweight (for special edition 95-99 E36 M3)
After the E46 3 Series, E60 5 Series, and E65 7 Series came out, they switched the lettering around to:

Ci - Coupe injected
Ci(c) - Cabrio injected
iX - Coupe or Saloon All wheel drive injected
i - injected 4 door
Li - long wheel base luxury injected
CSL - Coupe Sport Lightweight (for E46 M3)

M3 - Motorsport 3 (S14 E30, S50/S52 E36, S54 E46)
M5 - Motorsport 5 (S38 E28, S38 E34, S62 E39, S?? E60)

Wel l am sorry to hi-jack this thread but you should know more about BMW than you have ever wanted to...

Yeah the "e" does stand for eta however in the earlier days the "i" was to mark a breakthrough for BMW in fuel injection cars..

the 325e has more torque than an i however

anything with a "d" marks for diesel

And I don't know why DXs are called Deluxes....i'm guessing because it was a marketing scheme.
