So I picked up my civic last week and after 3 days of driving the check engine light came on. I took it to autozone to have the code read and it says it's either the o2 sensor or a bad catalytic converter. The day I got it I had it inspected my meineke so I took it back there and asked them what they thought it was. he said he thinks it's the catalytic converter, but I don't know why he is so set on that and not the o2 sensor. more money possibly? He didn't even look at it, and just told me its gonna be the cat. :-/ What are yall's thoughts on this? How do I check to see if my o2 sensor has gone bad?

dont let mechanics screw you over, there are only a few good ones and those are the ones that dont work at a chain automotive place lol. did it say before or after threshold on the code reader?

I didn't notice. I don't even know if their reader said before or after. Before threshold would be o2 sensor right?

before threshold would be the O2 sensor in your header, and after threshold could either be your cat or your O2 sensor after the cat.

So I did all that and the code was 02A which according to this http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1901557 is the Oxygen sensor #1. would that be the one in the header?
Yes. o2 sensor #1 is the first o2 sensor in the exhaust process. Should be as simple as replace it, clear the ECU code, and then drive the car for about 20 miles and see if it comes back.

To reset the ECU, check this post: http://www.clubcivic.com/board/showpost.php?p=3154125&postcount=16

Good luck!
