1991 hatchback beeping - seat belt alarm?

Hi, I just bought a 1991 hatchback. I love it, great car. It has three electronic issues though:

1. Dash lights aren't working. Research indicates this is probably because someone replaced the stereo and used one of the grounding wires from the dash. Should be an easy fix.

2. Blower only works on the highest two settings. Something I don't mind but would like to look into fixing.

3. The issue I'm writing about: an intermittent beeping noise.

This beeping appears to emanate from the glove box area. It gets triggered when I reverse or change gears, and sometimes at random. I can't figure out exactly what triggers it but when and how I shift gears seems to have some bearing on whether or not it will beep.

Research indicates that this might be the seat belt alarm. My plan is to just find the buzzer and disconnect it.

Has anyone had this particular issue? Why would shifting gears have any bearing on a seat belt buzzer, if this is the issue? If it is not likely that this is the issue, is there some other possible cause of the buzzing?

thanks
