2001 civic kill switch

Thanks for letting me join. But I may be in the wrong area or website for my problem. I have a civic 2001 with a remote starter whuch I believe is aftermarket....I cannot start the car unless I press the unlock button on the remote. And now the remote doesn't work. I do not know much about cars so sorry for my lamiency

Try putting a new battery in the remote they only last 2yrs or so
