2001 EX Fuel Filter Replacement

I've been checking up on this for my Civic and it sounds like this never needs replacing? Has anyone else heard this? Replacing the fuel filter on a certain schedule is not mentioned in the owner's manual or in my Chiltons repair manual. I have never heard of a car not needing the fuel filter replaced so I want to verify this.

Thanks for your help.

We don't have a conventional fuel filter like most other vehicles. All we have is a strainer sock attached to the bottom of the fuel pump inside the cage assembly. Here a few pics to show you what I'm talking about. You can replace it, but unless you are having problems, there really isn't any need to.

Can't see it all here.

Gotta open the cage up. Actual fuel pump with the sock is there on the right.

Here's another shot of the stock pump (on the right). The one on the left is my Walbro getting ready to go in last year.
