2004 civic lx dash / dome light problem

I have a few questions I tried searching but couldn't find my answer.
1. Are the dash lights supposed to come on when I start the car? They come on (and stay on) without the lights being turned on and dim down to normal when you turn the lights on.
2. My dome light does not come on when the door is opened. Yes the switch is set to dome light it will come on manually. It will not come on with any of the doors opened only if you switch it to on.
car is a 2004 civic lx automatic

Which specific dash lights are you referring to? Post a pic.

Ohm test the dome light switch in the middle position using a multimeter. Are there 2 dome lights, front and rear?

Yes it has 2 dome lights the 2 in the front (side by side) and the overhead center one.
Of the two pictures the one that shows lit up is with the car on and running without the lights being turned on the other is with the lights turned on

To answer #1, yes, that is normal. Dash lights will be fully illuminated when the headlights are off, and will dim when headlights are turned on. Less distracting to the driver at night.

Do both the front and rear dome lights NOT work when the doors are opened but work when turned on manually at the switch?

Correct both work with switch but not when any of the doors are opened. I havent ohmed it yet
