I heard a rumor that 99 si's have a problem where the vtec goes out at around the 50,000 to 60,000 mile mark. I did some searching (google and this site) and have found nothing of the sort. My car is creeping up on the 50,000 mile mark so if there is any truth to this I greatly appriciate some info on the matter.

thanks

i wasnt implying that it could wear out, but his motor could get weaker with time if he drives it really hard.

Honda has made over 5 000 000 vtec engines and the vtec istelf has never failed ONCE. So don't worry about yours going.

if you're worried, put in a vtec light. some say it's rice, but since i cant hear my vtec it lets me know when it kicks in. i know for a fact that my vtec kicks in at 4900rpm thanks to the light.

yea man... i've never heard of vtec 'wearing out.' but, it is possible for it to break, or soemthing to happen to it.. just like any other part of the car/engine. but it is not a regular occurance. i wouldnt worry about it.

thank for all the input. I am feeling much better now. A vtec light, hmmm, I might just do that. If you don't mind me asking where I might find one?
