"Honda announced the new Civic Type S, a 3-door hatchback which is the latest model in the transformation of Honda’s iconic C-segment brand into a premium, individual, sporty range. Sales are expected to commence in early 2007. This new model makes its world debut at the British International Motor Show on July, 18th 2006."

Taken from a review found on Topspeed. It talks about the Civic S's features and design.. quite interesting..
Also packed with the article are some nice high-res photos, worked very nice for me ;)

Anyway here's the link to the whole thing: http://www.topspeed.com/cars/honda/honda-civic-type-s-ar10591.html

Further emphasising its sporty nature, the Civic Type S is powered by either a 1.8 litre petrol engine or a 2.2 litre diesel engine, both of which produce 140 hp and are mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

it looks like honda is taking a que from fast and the furious... it doesnt matter how much power the car has, as long as you're shifting every 15 seconds... your car is sporty :thumbs up

140hp with a 6-speed transmission??!! Sounds annoying as hell. I hope there is no bumper to bumper traffic over there.

I think the engines will be an R18 (not sure if there will be another R18 or one of the R18s I already know of) and the already in use diesel motor from the EDM FR-V. It has 138 hp @ 4000 rpm and 251 lb-ft @ 2000 rpm.

I definately don't like the ice cube tray on the front and the rear reflector section in the middle between the taillights, but I'm happy with the overall look of the car. The diesel sounds fun so far too. So weird to see a Honda with more torque than horsepower.

I'm pretty sure it's a Peugot designed diesel. Honda doesn't make a 4-cyl diesel yet, just the 6 found in the euro accord.

Well, the engine code (unlike a lot of engines Honda doesn't make, but are used in their cars, like the Circle L) has a Honda code. So as of now... I think it's Honda-built.

This motor is used in the CR-V, FR-V, Accord, and now the Civic.

Here is a photo of the deisel btw.

Okay, it's a Honda Inline-4. Built by Honda. Not by Peugeot (which would explain the lack of results when I searched for both together) or GM or anything else.

http://www.ricardo.com/download/pdf/Reports_Benchmark.pdf
Honda In-line 4, 2.2-litre, N22A1
85.0mm x 97.1mm, 2204cc, 103kW

The first diesel engine developed and built in house
by Honda. All the main castings are in aluminium
alloy. Features include twin balancer shafts, and inlet
manifold with a twin plenum port deactivation system
to achieve variable swirl, and an offset crankshaft.

We have members in Europe. =) Besides, we have tons of threads on Civic Type Rs and we don't get those here either.
