I'm new to the forum, i just got this car a little over a month ago.
I paid 1200 for it because the kid didn't want it due to the automatic trans.
So after a couple weeks of research i decided to do a 5 speed swap,
I found a 5 speed at a salvage yard about 2 hours from my house
and all of the parts that i needed for $150.
I just got done this thursday with the swap, didn't even have to drive all the way
to the end of my road to realize that the tranny was junk, would only stay in 4th gear
and won't downshift into 2nd without popping out a million and a half times.
Tomorrow i'm picking up a 5 speed from a local junk yard and matching it with an exedy clutch
that i just got after work today.
Anyone know if exedy is any good?
Let me know what you think of the car.

thanks guys, i didn't really think about going JDM with the tranny.. i just wanted the 5 speed cheap, right now i think i have 400 into the 5 speed swap with a bunch of new parts. i'm actually about to leave and go pick up another trans out of a hatch at the junkyard to replace the one i put in. i'll post pics later of the finished engine bay and let you know how the new clutch and trans is. does anyone have an aftermarket shifter, or stock shifter? because this cut ebay POS just doesn't do it for me. where can i get HID bulbs, i have the ballasts but the bulbs are broken. thanks.

alright, just got home from driving around with the new trans, its awesome. the exedy clutch i bought ended up being the wrong one so i got a perfection clutch which is supposedly made by zoom? anyways i'm pretty pleased with the results, if anyone has any questions about the swap i'd be happy to help.

haha yeah, i'll post more pics tomorrow and a list of things that are an absolute MUST, i've had to run to the parts store and dealership a few times during the process of the swap. BTW, it's slammed on skunk2 coilovers with 14'' steelies =)

Well, since you already have all the stuff, it couldn't hurt to look over my experiences and some other peoples that have done the swap. You will need a passenger side upper mount because neither the auto or manual mount will work. And you will have to externally wire the reverse lights. It is a bit more complicated than you think but if you read it thoroughly you will have no problem doing it yourself. Have fun putting those pedals in. lol.

already done my friend, runs awesome.. i'm in the process of building a custom mount for the trans to the frame. as for the pedals they were definately the worst part but i had my sister help me haha. i actually got most of my information from your thread, thanks man. the only part that i got confused with is how to get it in park, i just took the green/white wire and grounded it, i couldn't find any other black wires.
