Dash light fuse keeps blowing

I have a 98 Civic Dx Hatch that keeps blowing the 7.5 fuse for the dash lights.. Any ideas??

Pry the dimmer switch out of the dash, unplug the connector, and use a jumper wire to short the red wire to the black wire in the connector. If the dash lights now turn on full bright without blowing the fuse, then replace the dimmer switch.

Tried that and it still blows the fuse.

If you unplug the dimmer switch but don't install the jumper wire, does the fuse still blow?

I was told the previous owner used the cigarette lighter and noticed it started blowing fuses. Doesnt make any sense to me.....but i dunno.

Answer to question in post #4? Did you install an aftermarket stereo?

The cigarette lighter is protected by a different fuse.

It does blow the fuse with the dimmer switch pulled and no jumper wires.

Start by checking for a short in the Red/Blk wire that provides back lighting power for the radio.
