Exhaust smell in cabin

I’ve taken my 2000 Civic I love to 2 mechanics now. Neither one could find why the exhaust fumes were coming into the cabin. They didn’t say they could smell them. But I can, as could my passengers. They suggest it’s burning oil, but I’m pretty familiar with that smell, and this is definitely smelling more like exhaust.

It only happens when I come to a stop and if I’m bringing in fresh air.

Do muffler or ??? shops have specialized tools or anything? The mechanics I took to are very well respected, so I think it’s not going to be something obvious.

You have a leak somewhere in the system, either a rotten pipe or bad gasket.

Thanks! That what I thought,…..sadly 2 very highly respected mechanics can’t find it. Ugh.

For me, that's the only thing it can be, especially if it's worse when you're stopped, idling and have the vent open. It's drawing the leak inside.

Thanks. Sadly, no one can find the leak for some reason. 2 top mechanics have tried. I even asked in exhaust specialist, but they said the two mechanics I had used would’ve found anything they could’ve found. I don’t want to scrap it, as it’s in too shape otherwise, But the smell is pretty scary. Worst case, I guess I’ll just never bring in fresh air.

thanks.

I don't care how "good" they are, you still have the smell coming in, so something is leaking.
