I had a d16y8 that I had put into my car and I wired it up to the obd2 dizzy. When I bought my ls/v it came with a 2000 gsr head and an obd2 distributor so there is no benefit to doing this but I'm an exception b/c it was what I had at the time and I saw no reason to buy a distributo when I could just cut and solder a few wires.
