Custom Mirror Install and Setup

Ebay Carbon Fiber 'STYLE' M3 mirrors $49.99 + shipping

(Don't know how long the link will work for, but here it is)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...16495

I ordered them with a blue halo LED
I received PINK.

also.. the 'neck' that was supposed to light up purple.. was covered in fake carbon fiber crap.

ontop of that... I was sent 96+ 4 Door M3 mirror backings...
I ordered 92-95 3 Door.

Anyhow, I was given a $20 refund... and decided to fabricate my 92-95 Spoon backings to match the new M3 Mirrors...

This is the process I went through:

Pink.

Take the 92-95 Spoon Backing and fill these 3 'old' holes with clear Silicone goop.
Leave the one in the picture un-filled.

Spoooooon.

Hold the new 96+ M3 Mounting Plate against the 92-95 Spoon Mounting Plate

Grab your favorite brand of toothpaste.. and put some toothpaste on the end of Q-Tips. Feed the Q-Tips through the holes of the 96+ M3 Mounting Plate onto the 92-95 Spoon Mounting Plate.
It should make 3 toothpaste marks on the Spoon plate.
These markings are where you will drill your new holes.

Another way to do this.. would be to put toothpaste on the ends of the M3 Mirror, and press it against the 92-95 Spoon backing...

It makes a different marking...
Both will work, just figure out which one you would prefer!

Once you've made your choice , drill away!!

Screw the M3 mirror into the fabricated Spoon backing plate (I used screws that were provided. Home Depot shouldn't be too far if you require some.)

Put the 'stock' rubber dealeo back on

Install the mirror on the car. Its childplay.. 3 screws.

Now you have some wires to toy with.

Wrap the wires they provide you in electrical tape to protect them from the elements & bare metal.

In between your door and the car interior..
should be wires running to your car.
Unwrap the 'stock' electrical tape

On the door side, there should be a rubber grommet exposed..
Take the speaker out of the door..
and stick your hand in there... and feel around for a plastic piece near the rubber grommet.
There should be 4 prongs on it... press them all to release the plastic piece & rubber grommet.
You can now feed the Mirror wires through here... along the 'stock' wires..
On the 'car side', just poke a hole or make a tiny cut on the rubber grommet... and feed the wires through..

This would also be a good time to replace your stock speaker wires (22ga) with something that can take more power.. (12ga-16ga)

Now re-wrap the mirror wiring & speaker wire (optional) in fresh electrical tape.. at least wrap as much of it as you possibly can.
You only have like 1" of space to work with.. i know.. i know..
You -could- remove the entire door to make things easier... but i've heard bad things about people removing their door.. and trying to re-align the door to 'stock position'
You can do it all without removing your door.. so just stick it out ;) Its worth it, its worth it!

Now that you've ran the wires into the car.. connect the wires as follows:

The mirror harness contains 3 wires
Red = 12v Power Parking Lamps
Blue = Signals
Black = Ground

Connect to.....

Red/Black = Parking Lights
Green/Yellow = Turn Signals
Black = Ground

My car has been sitting all winter.. so she's dusty.
But here are some after pics =)
