i did this last night with the help of your excellent write-up, thanks so much for the help!
i couldn't find a DIY on how to remove all the plastic center console stuff to get to the cupholders, but i just looked at everything and figured it out.
oh and FYI: to remove just the cupholder itself (and not have to also remove the upper cd/tape player/storage cubby hole), just remove the 2 screws behind the cupholder. They're easily accessible with a long phillips screwdriver. if anyone has any questions about this or anything else regarding the LID REMOVAL, PM me. i just did it so all the steps are fresh in my mind. lol
