Need help with consistent backfire

I have a 98 civic ek, did a mini me with y7 block y8 head. I’ve tried a bunch of things, but I’m consistently getting a backfire at low rpm. Checked the fuel pressure regulator, plugs, wire, valve lash, checked for vacuum leak, checked electrical timing, the car will also randomly die for no reason. Any ideas?

I had the same problem these are the two thing that'll help tremendously (worked for me at least) tweak your throttle cable to idle slightly higher than usual (no more than aprox. 300rpm) and check your idle air control valve. If its bad it could be the reason that you're randomly dying.
