Gotta problem with my 1998 Civic 4 dr sedan (auto). When I excellerate from a stop, and get to medium speed I am experiencing a harsh "bogging down" in the power. This almost seems like a restriction of gas for 1, 2 or 3 seconds, and then it regains the excelleration and will come up to speed. Getting very poor gas mileage, around 22mpg. Was once told by 2 mechanics - 2 years ago - that it was the Cat.Conv. so I had it replaced ($700) and it didn't help. In 2004 had the engine replaced with one from a Civic that had been wrecked and had less miles. This has had the problem since. Any opinions?

Does this same "bogging down" occur under heavy throttle as well? or just under normal acceleration?

Start simple, spark plugs.

spark plugs and wires, fuel filter or pump, faulty speed sensor on your tranny???
