5th gear synchro is shot. go to the junkyard and get a used tranny. swap those bitches out and your done

id be willing to bet the syncro is ok. its the gear selector sleeve that is bad or the little metal ring that goes over the syncro is worn down.

i would say spend the money on getting it fixed. if you go to the junkyard and get a different transmission, whats to say that it doesnt do the same thing or has more problems?

getting your tranny fixed at a shop will cost you $1500+ (trust me i know this from experience, and i will never deal with tranny shops ever again, f**king ripoff)
getting a junkyard tranny and swapping it in will cost you approx. $300
which one would you choose?

not staying in gear or popping out of gear is a well known symptom of a bad synchro

Jersey8 is right^^^ and if you get a crappy tranny at a junkyard, you can go buy 5 more and not pay as much as you would for a tranny shop to do it. (Trust me i know i worked at a shop) Do the junkyard route. easy work.
