I just bought this 94 Civic EX 4dr and have a question:

It seems like when i rev high...starting around 5000 rpms...i start to let out some white smoke out of the tailpipe. Im guessing maybe somethings wrong with my Vtec or maybe its just old. The engine has 146,xxx miles on it. Im planning on swaping it at sometime in May, but for now was just wondering if there is anything i could do to stop it from smoking...As long as im not reving around 5000 rpms there is no smoke...any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Justin

aight dude, is it a thick white smoke or thin smoke. if its smoking when u just warming up, its common, but if its constant while ur driving, u need a mechanic. a thick white smoke indicates that engine coolant is either leaking through ur cylinder wall, a blown head gasket, or even a cracked engine block, u shouldnt drive it until u get it checked asap.

It also might be the motor burning oil like my civic. I have an 89 with a 1.5 non v-tec and it burns more oil when I am at a high RPM so it might be ur piston rings or valve seals on your head. Get it checked out.

AHHH i have an 8 dollar solution if its the oil burning! go to you local retail parts store and pick yourself up a bottle of Lucas Heavy Duty oil stabilizer....next oil change substitute a quart of oil with this... make sure you get the whole bottle in there... that stuff is great! i gotta 95 lx and it smoked when i started it and when i shifted.... it doesnt anymore.
