question on resetting ecu/chipped ecu?

first off i know there are many ways on resetting an ecu, but how would you guys do it? also if u reset a chipped ecu does it turn back to oem settings?

just disconnect the ground on your battery for about 15 minutes.

I would have to assume that if you have a chip it woud not go back to stock and the chip is now a part of the ecu. My Duo Core doesnt go back to single when it runs out of battery.
