si amber vs. ex white

I know that the si coupes had amber in the gauge cluster, climate controls and radio while the rest of the civic lineup had white colored. I've seen the DIY on how to make my white colored controls to amber but what really makes the controls amber on oem equipment. Is it simply the bulb being covered by an amber cover instead of the blue cover, or is it more than that. Anyone know for sure?

you can paint over the bulbs with "testors" competition orange #1628, I did that an it hasnt come off in months of use.

Ask Eran about painting bulbs. We had some that turned yellow on us. Didn't notice until we took the cluster back apart to replace another bulb.

So all the bulbs in the gauge cluster and climate controls have amber covers over the bulbs? If so, i might just go pick them up at the dealership. Painting the bulbs would be cheaper but i personally think having the oem covers on the bulbs would give it that true amber color. Thanks guys.
