Transmission Question Please Help

I have a 1996 Honda Civic DX with the D16Y7 engine and 5 speed trans, well the ISB is screwed.

So, I'm just going to change the tranny because I have a friend that owns a junk yard and is giving me a free one.

What I want to know is, Can I use any Civic tranny from 96 - 00?

Can I use a VTEC trans?

And is there anything I would have to do, or change to get a VTEC tranny to fit?

Thank you.

Thanks for the fast reply, much appreciated.

I have one more question though.

How do I identify trannys that are shelved?

Dose the A00 or B00 mean anything?

Maybe someone could post a pic to show where to locate these serials.

Thank you.

Yes the A00 and the B00 mean something. One is the y7 tranny with the longer gears, the other is the y8 tranny with the gears that are a bit shorter. Those stamps are usually located near the fill and drain plug. I can't remember which is which though. someone on here will.
