Won't start

Ok, I'm lost. This is my daughter's car. It started running hot. I told her not to drive it til I could look at it. Found a leak in the heater house, replaced it. Thought I'd do a tune up, change the oil, spark plugs, ect. Before doing anything I fired it up and drove it up on my ramps. Did what I had planned. Now it won't start. New thermostat, new plugs, new hoses, oil change. It started for about 1 second, died. It cranks hard and fast, won't fire. Tried a little starting fluid. Nothing. Pulled the valve cover off so I can see the timing belt, it's there (and pretty new). I assume it's not getting spark, but I don't have a helper to crank it while I check. What would cause no spark? Distributer? Main relay? Anything else?

Also, I put the old plugs back in just for fun. Nothing.

No spark. When I was doing this repair and tune up I also did a compression check. I did not unplug the distributor, I just took the spark plugs wires off. Could this have damaged the distributor or coil?
