Then he is either a very bad driver or his engine needs work.
Automatic transmissions rob horsepower.
Every transfer of energy point takes power away.
That's the law of physics.
That's why manual trans gets better gas milage.
On larger engines the shift points can be set more efficiently
so the car will be faster, but they do eat some of the power.
On small engines, it's a big difference.
Go drive a NEW Civic automatic, then drive a NEW manual.
(where everything is even)
You'll be amazed at the power difference.
That's the only reason I'm driveing a manual.
My wife doesn't care, so she drives an automatic.
No comparrison when it comes to power.

I agree, but that gets back to the issue of gear length. I was just pointing out that in a long run, an automatic should never catch a manual, but it can happen the other way around, due to differences in ReV limiters

Manual... and if you want your auto to go fast buy a manual swap.

You'll just blow the tranny if you try to add to much power, Honda hasn't had the greatest track record with auto tranny's...J30's tranny for example.

10% of power is lost through an automatic transmission,

Which means.. an auto will be 10% slower then a standard with the same engine/car..mods..etc..
