i have a 98 civic hatchback dx. stock everything, automatic, 171k miles. I have done hours of research to no luck.. I've seen people that had similar problems, but none exactly like whats happening. About a month ago or so my transmission is struggling to shift. and its completely random, but here recently its more so than not. Its like the tranny doesn't want to shift, I can let of the gas SOMETIMES and it will shift, other times even if I let off it wont shift so I have to gas it and make it shift and it will jerk bad. it also jerks sometimes downshifting.. If anyone has suggestions or anything would be great, I got quoted 2 grand to rebuild which is about what I paid for the car, so that's a no go. thanks in advance

Sounds like it is rebuild time. Welcome to the worst/weakest point in a civic of this generation...the automatic slush box. They are well known to fail.
