99 civic no 2nd gear

i just bought a 99 ex from a friend. he said second here was going out. works sometimes and sometimes not. well ive noticed that the shifter seems to hit the exhaust sometimes trying to go into second. its a cheapo adjustable short throw. could that be the problem? im hoping i can just swap the shifter out and the problem be fixed.

could be they way the short throw shifter was put on.. just buy a stock shifter and swapp em out.

check ur linkage underneath the car might be bent prolly slammin into exhuast

jack the car up safe! and i would have a friend sit in it and shift and you lay under it and watch whats happening if its hittin something or now

use 4 jack stands tho dont just jack the front end up and lay lol

well i noticed the cheapo thats on the car now has a good amount of play while in any gear.?
