This is what the fork looked like when i pulled it out. I believe this is the 5th gear shift fork. I have not actually used this tranny yet, i bought it off a buddy for 30 bux, so i'm not sure if it would cause a grind or not! Any insight to this?

This is the piece that actually broke off. It was still wedged between the fork and the synchro sleeve!

This is what it should look like as a whole.

I was about to change all the bearings in the tranny, because i got it so cheap, but i may have to change this fork as well depending on the cost, or go to an S40 unit alltogether! What u guys think? ( f**k these aluminum shift forks damnit)

Its off a 96-00 Y7 and Y8 tranny (have both). Should be the same forks. Ive never heard of them breaking like that tho. :what:

That is a 92-95 transmission, hence the aluminum shift forks. A 96-00 fork will not work as they are steel forks and are not interchangeable. As far as these forks breaking, it's better from a rebuild stand point for them to break (aluminum is less elastic) than for them to bend and break other parts of the transmission.

Honestly, I don't think you'll have a problem with this as long as you put the piece back in the collar. Mine was the same and I have had no problems since reassembly. Mine was on the 1-2 fork. I autocross the thing and while my shifts are smooth, I still shift pretty rapidly.

(shift fork is 'upside-down' in these pics)

are you dumping the tranny hard?and is your clutch adjusted right like no air in the lines and not grinding when going it to a gear at high rpms
