DSLR advice please

I need your Advise on what camers i should get...
please keep in mind that im a student and i dont have much money ..lol
But i do want a good camera that will take great pics.
I have heard that the nikkon d50 is a great camera but they are discontinued.
I know most of you guys in here are experienced in this so give me some advice..

Oh yea... i need this for class assignments but i intend to use this alot for my personal use as well...

do you have any lenses already? Canon and Nikon are the leaders of the pack. I prefer canon, but Nikon is a hell of an underdog. Both are great. www.dpreview.com

You could probably find a used D50 for pretty cheap. We have one and I love it so far....but I must admit, I'm still a noob using it so what do I know? lol

naw..i don't have any lenses
do they come with them or are they sold separately?

my price range is about $ 300 -$ 400.

Lenses are sold seperately and they're not cheap either!

with that price range you could find a used D50. im sure there are still place you can buy one new but will probly run you about 500. and like britty said yes lenses are sold seperately and prepare to spend hella amount of cash for new ones.

don't get dSLR now, or else you'll be blowing your funds away big time... for now, stick w/ the point and shoot cameras.

I saw one at circuit city today. You could get a rebel for about that price. At best buy they have it for 699. I bet you could find it cheaper. I myself got a canon s3 and am loving it. It has lot of the features of a dslr like adjustable shutterspeed up to 1/1600 and adjustable aperture from 2(ish)- 8(ish) not exact on the aperture. But its a great camera.

Dell has Xti's for not bad. it was like $800 with a lense. but thats outta your price range. Im with everyone else. Id stick with a really nice point and shoot for a while. save up for the dslr.

look for a D50 they are a little less and have more features. and dont ebay lenses go to wolf/ritz camera or bhphotovideo.com. they both have decent prices for new lenses. ill keep and eye out to see if i can find you a D50 and post up if i find one.

Edit:ok i found you one actually pretty quick. its the D50 with 28-80mm lense. $499.95
