12-3 (P1491)

P1491 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Insufficient Lift

12- Accord Civic CRV CRX Del Sol Odyssey Prelude
85-98 86-98 * n/a 85-91 * n/a 95-98 85-98
EGR Lift Sensor (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor
* not a valid code if car is not equipped with an EGR valve (some Civic models are not)
:

This morning it was really cold outside.
Started the car as usual, did well at idle and
even normal driving and when I had driven 1 ½ to 2 km
as loose engine lamp, which I never experienced ever before,
never happened.

So I stopped at the road. Then I started the car back again but then loose
not light anymore. Then drove 13-14 km to work without motor-lamp-problems.

More has been through this?

Civic EK3 1996.

Now I have been with Honda and checked the error code.

Have run about 20.000 kilometers since last year when I've installed
the Skunk2 manifold intake, and no problems
at all when the egr was removed.

Read to someone on a UK forum had
had the same problem just when the car was cold, such as:
"This code (P1491 or MIL 12) begins to come up when
the weather turns cold"

It's a safe assumption that removal of your EGR valve/system has caused this problem.

Yes I understand this.. but can I drive the car without problems
if the motorlamp will light on again ? But people told me to not
install the EGR to my Skunk2 manifold intake.

Later I'm gonna have a P28 ECU with OBD2-OBD1 harness. But not
right now.

What can I do if the motorlamp will light on again ?
