em2 Engine Swap Questions

hey everyone honda lover out there, im new but anyways ... so i just got my 03 civic coupe, its a d17a1 with automatic transmission,recently the motor has started rod knocking, my questions Are:

1. Will Reinstalling another d17a1 be worth it?
2. Would it be complicated to have a k20a2 engine with automatic transmission inside?
3. am i able to just change the bottom half of the engine and keep the top half ?

Yes yes and yes.

1. I would personally stay away from D17s, they are known to have been designed very poorly and there are numerous things that fail on these prematurely. (This is just MY personal opinion)
2. I'd never do a swap to slap on an auto transmission, if you want to do it right the first time, get a manual (again, just MY opinion).
3. Yeah you can rebuild your bottom end or get a new one, and keep the head/top half.
