Ok so in a huge parking lot today, I found an 8gb SanDisk Cruzer flash drive....I get it home and kinda wanted to see what they had on it before i deleted it...but its password protected.....any ideas on how to clear the password protection without deleting the information?

I would try to find out if anyone lost it. I remember when I lost my flash drive I was really pissed off because my homework that was due the next day was on it.
no offense or anything but what you want to do is unethical and really a d**k move.. that information could be sensitive personal information.. it could be important financial information.. it could be information that is important to someones job.. and your FIRST priority is how to crack it so you can READ their PERSONAL s**t.. and your SECOND concern is wiping it clean so you can use it.. why dont you do the NON-DICKHEAD thing and try to HELP another person.. identifying the owner would be simple as they would have the password.. throw up some flyers..

ok so it might be immoral that i want to look at the contents...i get that....part of me just doesnt want 8 gigs of music to get deleted (if thats even what the content is). you dont need to get accusatory about my morals because i was intrigued to see how difficult something like that is. and NO i probably wont be using it because i have a 1 gig flash drive that i barely ever use as is, so another one, be it 8 gig or not, is really of little use to me. as far as returning it and putting up flyers, this was in a shopping center parking lot with 3 main anchor stores (Target Best Buy and Kohls) along with 8-10 various other stores, do you really think posting up 4-5 flyers around there is really gonna do anything? if it did, great. but its not really worth my time and effort.
plus this thing has been run over a few times...its barely hangin together as is. I get that you're the Admin, but dont get high-and-mighty on me about my morals please.

i hope that the one day in your MANY years of living.. when you DO lose your wallet.. or misplace a credit card.. the person who finds it treats it with the same dignity and respect you seem to have.. and NO im not TRYING to be a d**k... i just think its lame to find something that MIGHT be VERY important to someone and make NO effort to do the right thing... but you know its not shocking.. its what people do today..

I Lost my 120GB external hard drive a few months back... I had my entire computer backed up onto that thing... about 500 pictures, 70 movies, and about 100 Full CDs.... Sucked ballz I was all sad.. I have no idea where I left it still lol.
on a side. note. how do you even put passwords on your flash drive?
s**t happens man. It's different when you steal a piece of equipment from someone, that's immoral.
But if that person loses it... then that person is SOL. If it's important enough, you should keep better track of it. I don't think I would ever lose my wallet nor my cellphone. But then finding a wallet and/or phone is totally different from finding a flash drive. Ownership is easier to find. My flash drive doesn't mean s**t to me.
