Fuel Gauge issue **91 DX H/B**

i just got my EF hatch yesturday and noticed the fuel gauge doesnt work 100%. the gauge read just under 1/4 of a tank when i first got the car. after driving around for a while i noticed the needle was jumping a little bit. i went to grab gas and it only let me put about $8 (CAN) in the tank which didnt move the needle at all.

is there a way to fix the fule gauge without replacing the stock cluster?

i havent checked fuses yet but i dont think it would be a fuse and im not familier with any of the electrical so i dont know where to start troubleshooting.

I wanna say its called the sending unit, I don't know why. In the tank. It's prolly not the cluster.
