Good Oval Track Car?

I doubt if anyone here knows (or even cares for that matter) about oval track racing. But I am searching for a good car to race with. It doesn't have to look good, it just has to have a solid engine and chassis. I was thinking of the 86-89 CRX HF with a B16 swap or a 86-89 Civic Hatchback. The car has to be stock, I have seen them with swaps but I'm pretty sure it's allowed as long as the engine's not built. I need a very light car because of the stock rule. I can probably get an 86 HF and probably having it weigh in the high 1,600's. I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow to check some stuff out. They have a lot of old CRX's. This kid whose uncle owns the place said I could cut a deal with him on getting a shell. I was thinking about this:

Kirkey Aluminum Circle Track Seat
Simpson Latch-Lock 5 Way Harness
Fuel Safe 8 gallon Cell
Optima Yellow Top with a Jeg's Relocator Box
Sparco 323 or 383 wheel
Custom Roll Cage by Colletti Motorsports....etc.

Anybody race oval track? Advice?

See shadybowl.com for compact class rules and some pictures.

^^^ Yeah it sounds like some redneck NASCAR s**t, but I think it would be more fun than drag racing. Anyway I want to show those old Beretta's and Cavalier's what us Honda boys (and girls) can do! :D

If you are running Gen X class you can't have multiport anyway so carb is ok.(carb or TBI only) But a CRX???? You better be fast or you are gonna get run the hell down by a big ass Chrysler 600 with a Mitsu 2.6 l or a Tempo or something.

Best car IMO: Dodge Omni. an early model with the VW 1.7 liter engine. Solid enough to get bumped a little and a responsive engine when not emission strangled.

The Omni GLH is multiport so it is ineligible for Gen X class...otherwise heheheheh you could practically race that bish in the Hot Stocks.

If you can get them to let you slide on the 4speed auto you could race a late 80's Accord provided it's not a SEi or LXi.

Still best bet if you got access to a lot of wrecked cars are the Chryslers. Reliant body w/ a 2.5 Chrysler or 2.6 Mitsubishi. The 413 tranny is a variant of the 909 so you can kit it and it is simple. Cavaliers are going to be a lot more common and you won't have any advantages with them. Tempos can use a 2.5 four from an early Taurus for big torque (relatively speaking) but have a weak engine mount that when it goes it blows the driveline geometry and stacks a bunch of positive camber on the inside wheel. You have to get an early Escort for a usable tranny.

Circle Track. The OG's of drifting.
