Help, wont rev past 3500

Hi my 94 civic ex d16 v tec wont rev past 3500 rpm. Any ideas what could be wrong?

that is called "limp mode"

the engine is throwing a code...

reset the ecu(unplug the battery for about 30minutes)

it might just go away..

if not u need to read the error code its throwing

Bet you the code you get is a VTEC solenoid code. Check your oil level.

I might be way off, but its the first thing I check on Hondas that experience this, it's common.

timing!!!!! happened to me when i jumpped a couple teeth on the timing belt....

There are 100 reasons why it would go into limp mode. Just check the damn code.

well it might be your ecu is crap. I dont under stand the limp mode thing? i got a check engine light non stop for system too rich. but i can hit 8k all day. when my guy dropped his ls in when we first got it started it wouldnt go past 3500 we got a new ecu and its fine now.

USDM ECUs will disable vtec if it's a hard code (soft codes don't enable limp mode). JDM ECUs however will still engage VTEC.
