I need a new Enginer for my 99 SiR Civic

Hey guys.

I am in need of an engine for my 1999 Honda Civic SiR. Sadly it has a blown cylinder, compression test is zero on one of them.

Now I have an Honda Specialist in town who is a good friend of mine and he has weighed the pros and cons of a re build, and of buying a new Engine.

In your past experiences, I am kind of curious if any of you have gone either road and how it all worked out?

If you can suggest a place where I CAN buy a JDM replacement engine please let me know. I prefer if it's from Japan, as according to my mechanic, they are generally low mileage, and easier to get a warranty/guarantee, etc.

I don't really want to go to a wrecker and potentially get stuck with a pile of scrap that is seized or shot or has 300 000 miles on it.

I haven't had my car long, and I absolutely love it. It's beautiful and I am willing to invest what i need too into it. Within reason of course.

So, i need advice, and I need to know which engine is IN my car. Whether its a B16A1, B16A2, B16B, or whatever. It seems like there are a few models, and I don't want to take a step back at all.

Hell, if you want to, just tell me where to look in the car itself so I know for future use.

Any help and advice is appreciated!

Go easy on me... its my first time

The motors are stamped to the left of the exhaust manifold, right by the main seal.

check em out, a lot of people are into using them. Great customer service.

Rebuild and boost!

Thank you very much man!

You think a rebuild is a good way to go?

From my understanding if certain cylinders hold zero compression, that would just mean I would have to get my cylinders bored out, and maybe use oversized cams as well?

Seems a bit... I dont know. But if i cant find anything as a swap then...

any other thoughts. and thanks again!

if its the SiR its the B16A2, id recommend a rebuild unless you want to put a few thousand into a completely stock motor. Dont go to the wreckers, ive done it, ive had friends do it.. they dont last long unless u wanna sink alot of money into them. Check out google.ca for another B16A2 for sale. if not, start looking for new parts to rebuild it.

i think you should start tearing down your current motor to find the main problem. a blown headgasket can cause zero compression and that's a pretty easy fix. or there could be a baseball sized hole in your cylinder wall lol. you may be able to salvage some of your current engine, which would make finding the parts you need easier. if your bottom end is damaged but your head is fine, you should look into finding a short block (no tranny, wiring harness, or accessories attached. motor only) and doing a swap rather than replacing the entire engine
