massive backfire

So I got a prelude, with a h23a bluetop swap. While I, well just about when ever I accelerate decelerate you name it is back.fire. while im accelerating it back fires and.doesn't allow it to gain speed like it should. Timing belt is.good, how else could I fix.this?

Is there a CEL on?
What do you mean that it doesn't gain speed like it should?
Is it slower than expected? Will it reach a certain RPM then not go any higher? Does it only happen at certain Throttle Positions or only under certain circumstances?

i bet one of the cams (exhaust side most likely) is a tooth or two off. happened to my buddies H22 swap.

It happens no matter what. And yes not as fast as expected it will not gain speed until back.fire is done. and I believe the problem might be in the fact it has a throttle body from a mustang I believe, and the tps was not.hooked up. Sound like the problem possibly?
