Mini Me swap questions

Ok so i have a 98 ex. Right now its got a d16y7 into it. Im gonna do a mini me swap. I am not sure if i want to do the y8 or the z6, which is better? And also right now i still have the d16y8 ecu into my car, now by putting in the new head will my CEL go away, it is valve timing control. And also what am i going to see after i complete this swap?

Are you sure your car has a y7? The EX came w/ a y8. Does your intake come out the top of the manifold, or side?

if u have a y7 with the y8 ecu that would be why you are getting the valve timing cel. go with a y8 head its the one that goes with that ecu and its an easy plug and play install.

looks like a y8 to me maybe someone mini me swapped it before.

Thats what i thought but there is no Vtec solenoid, how can i check to see if its a y8 head?

not exactly sure how to check. there should be a head code stamped on it somewhere. its also possible someone put the y8 intake manifold on the y7 head. you could take the valve cover off and check the cam too.

Alright now if i check the cam what will be the diff between the y7 and the y8

also look for p2j or p23 stamped on the right side of the head somewhere. thats a y8. y7 is p2f stamped above exhaust ports 2 and 3. hope this helps if not im lost

Yeah bro its a y7. Its got p2f stamped. I think when they swapped out the original y8 they just left the intake mani on there. Well now i gotta buy myself the vtec solenoid and the head right? Or anything else too?

just get the head and should it come with the soleniod. go to a junk yard and snag the plugs for the vtec connections and you will just have to run the wires and pin them into the ecu. hopefully this helped once you do all this it should clear up your cel codes.

if u get the head it should come with solenoid. just go to a junkyard and snag the plugs and run the wiring into ur ecu this should clear up ur cel.hopefully this helped. oh u should also change ur water pump head gasket and timing belt while u have everything pulled apart. good luck man
