Painting Plastic?

okay look i just took this pic from a DIY

That plastic piece that is being removed...I need to repaint, would i just be able to sand it down and spray paint it..and if so what grit sand paper should i use and any other information that i should know?

Please don't tell me your going to colour code it with your exterior paint? You need to use a fine sand paper then clear coat it so the paint can stick easier...

well my paint is flat black, so i dont see how it would be bad. Its not like my paint is red or whatever....the piece looks like s**t now with alot of stains that i couldnt remove with meguiars and with black magic cleaners, so i figure i might as well do it flat black.

how fine do you think would be good?
and you mean give it a clear coat after painting it flat black?
