Picture of my engine plus question

Ok here is a pic of my engine, just bought this car a week ago, and looking at the engine, can see that the block needs some cleaning of the black stains, thinking that if I did that, I could see if there were any issues that might show up.

So whats the best way to do that???

im with you traction lol

all you can do is use engine cleaner or simple green and a preshure washer rember dont turn off the car

fix your gaskets, that som bich is leaking . it will make it look nice. rust is all over the place, feel bad for you. you cant do much there. just leave as is.

looks like a typical michigan engine to me... haha so it looks normal!

but anyways you could try a cleaner, but if it is surface rust just sand it down. or remove parts such as your heat shield and sand blast them. Alot of parts get weathered by the salt and the metal on the things such as the power steering pump get really rough. All you can do is sand stuff down i suppose. Or just leave it lol

It's actually not that bad... I saw one a couple weeks ago that spent most of its life in North Carolina... it was 10 times worse.
But that's definitely why I won't buy a car from anywhere east of Texas.
