Speedo problems...

I just bought a 1996 civic hatchback dx after my uncle did a little work to it. The one thing he didnt fix was the fact that the speedo would read 40 when im doin 30 or 80 when im doin 70. Can i fix this? Does it help if i add the odometer is also out? Any help would be cool....

Nope.... A buddy said it could be a sensor.. anyone second that?

Yea then its either your spedo sensor or you cluster....

Does it jump around? Same thing happen to mine would say doing really fast would jump around until 2 months later finally threw check engine light for VSS and speedo went to zero. Oreilly's has for like 129$ Swaped my new one in and worked like a charm.

No it doesnt jump.... The check engine light is on though

yea your sensor is probably shot, cause you will throw a CEL if your VSS isnt plugged in. i would say your best bet is to try and find one used on forums/craigslist/ebay or the junkyard. theyre too expensive brand new. hell i had one last month but i sold it sorry dude

I changed out the sensor and i dont think my problem is fixed....
