this is a well used speed tester.. but its one that i know everyone can use and it will leave you with an image you can use to show people... so... go test your speed and come back and post the images. im interested in seeing how different they are according to where you live or whats available. other good things about it.. it will show how YOU rank up against people in your state.. or on the same isp. you can also check other places in the world... if you use a test server in austrailia... you will notice your speed is drastically slower

also remember.. 1000kb/s equals 1.0Mb/s

so civicexofdoom is 4.6mb/s

your on DSL... so naturally you will be slower than someone on cable. im on cable. i pay for 6.0mb/s but with the comcast powerboost. i see numbers like that... it only lasts for about 20 seconds. then will drop down. thats why my numbers are higher.

its also a good way to see if you are getting all of what you pay for. i know people who pay for 4.0mb/s but only get 3 or less.

your upload will vary and will never be close you your download. i could go redo the test and only get an upload of 600 kb/s

also take a look at your ping... notice that top gear your is like 235. thats not cool. are you downloading something? or running something? or switching pages? wait till your doing absoloutly nothing. and with no resources running IE: aim, alot of browser windows, tons of programs...

try rebooting your computer and redoing the test. sometimes you will notice huge gains.

also the further away from the test site... the higher your ping.

that blows...lol hes hardwired into the university... and since they provide thier own internet... he always gets good numbers.

i read that there is a university in this country that is running over 100mb/s
