we have gotten a lot more done in 3 pages than that other thread has gotten done like like 30 lol
I love the ideaoc_civic said:i like how it still gives SOME indication of how active you are... post count for me is not a status thing at all.. but i catch myself occasionally looking just to see how active someone is... having dif levels is cool because its still there but not super apparent....
Going-West said:yea, i think that is a really great idea.
like
1. newbie
2. active newbie
3. member
4. active member
5. OG
or something like that i dunno
agreed... it would still be time AND posts.. the exact amount fo each is still being discussed..Kataku said:I may have read it wrong, so correct me if I did, by all means.
Even if we do the ranking deal that way, based on 50-100 posts, or whatever etc. people would still be whoring to get the next rank up to obtain more privileges. Maybe incorporating both time and post count in the ranking would work? Still a little flawed with that too though.
I'll just use me as an example.
I visit ClubCivic daily. Every day. It's sad, but I do. When I'm not at work, or out with friends, etc. I'm usually playing around with my Graphic Design or Film projects, and I frequently take breaks so I don't get burnt out on any particular project, so I mess around on here.
When I post, it is almost always, I'd say over 90% of the time, actual content that took some thought to write out. I try to stay away from "That's cool" or "Nice ride" and similar comments that are basically whoring, since usually 20 other members have said the exact same thing by the time I see the thread. I try to make sure I contribute when I post, for the most part(I have whored in the past, I have flamed in the past, but I'm talking majority here).
What I'm getting at is that, while I don't post all that much, I try to make the ones I do make worthwhile. I've been here since September 2003 and only have 400 odd posts(was just about to break 1k before the Lounge posts being killed), but I feel I've contributed pretty well to the site, even if the majority was not tech related.
As someone already stated, I think the best solution would be that you apply to participate in VIP. And mods can look to see what kind of member you are to this site and give access. But there's far too many members, not enough mods, and not enough incentive for them to do something like that.
Anyways, I think the rank idea is a good one, don't get me wrong. Just needs to be fine tuned.
the more posts you need, the more potential whoring to get into a "VIP' section. AGREED.oc_civic said:lets get it out there.. the idea of VIP is to have a place where members who have been around for a while can chit chat about slightly private, or of a mature nature (porn etc..)
so what do you think? i think that having there be a 500 post requirement for it is silly... that just pushes you to whore..
how about 100 posts and a year as a member?
that way you will have to post a little.. but membership time will be more important

100 posts I think is too little and a year too long. Mabye 250 and 6 months...???
I think 250 posts is a pretty good number, but I'd push for a little bit longer. Maybe like 8 months.MySiIzFaster said:the more posts you need, the more potential whoring to get into a "VIP' section. AGREED.

I agree, maybe 200 posts cause 100 is pretty lowoc_civic said:how about 100 posts and a year as a member?
