Vtec Question 01 Civic EX

Hey guys....I know a stock vtec hits at 5500rpms

I have oil and everything but I don't notice anything or hear anything different...do I have to go somewhere to get it chipped or modded because I heard people on forums talking about that...

Sorry if it's a stupid question...

But of I have to do that...which places should I look for and what should I ask for?

And at which rpms should it engage In

I am pretty sure the VTEC is supposed to kick in at 4500 RPM's
