What RPM are you shifting at?

Saw this in another forum while searching, thought it was kewl.


for clear response,
post vehicle - type - year - mods - (if you want)

post what RPM you generally shift at (you can be specific for each gear or just generalize) when every day driving (economy)


also,


what RPM do you normally shift (per gear if you want) at when "punching it" (that term was used on the other thread so eh why not?)



I'm interested in everyone's responses,


I have 97 ex and generally shift around 3,000RPM for economy but have never really gassed it. What would be considered over revving? I know vtec engages around 5,500RPM but it "seems" like I'm a longgg way from that when I shift, and that pushing over 4,200 is over revving (am I being paranoid?)

I shift anywhere between 2500 and 4000 for daily driving. When I get on it, I either shift at ~5000 just before VTEC engagement or I take that ish up to 7000 lol.

Rockin the stock D16Y8 with 219k miles =).

i usually shift between 3500-4000 rpm when daily driving and when "punching it" i shift around 5500-6500.
oh and i have a 99 civic ex (d16y8).

I usually shift around 2500-3000, and if I actually have ROOM to get on it(i work 2.4miles away from my house, and drive no more than 8 a day), I shift around 5. This car is babied a lot.

I shift when Im in the wrong gear for what I'm trying to do. I drive a 95 EX d16z6 automatic. Wait, you meant people who have 5speeds ok. lol

If i wanna gun it 5500 to 7000
And if i really wanna smoke some one i hit 8000
Rarely hit n e thing over 7000 scared ima blow something haha

Daily shifting with boost - 2.5k
Without - 3k - I had a boost leak for like 2 weeks.. fml
Getting on it - 6k

T3/T4 turbo, 60 trim @ 9.5lbs
stock internals..

Normal driving - 2.5-3k, maybe higher in 1st
Gettin on it... 6k or so

normal- 3-4k might even be 3.5-4.5k
punching it- 5.5-7/7.5k
sometimes all the way to 8k

01 s2000
normal- 4-5.5k
punching it- 6k-8k
hit that magical 9k a few times.

03 CRV
normal 2.5-4k
punching it- no more than 5-6k maybe not even that much.
I think it redlines at 6.5k Its not nearly as fun to rev that one though.
I don't think i ever really run the CRV hard.

dd around 3k-3500
gettin on it around 7k racing 8500ish hehehehe :D

guess I'm not over revving from looking at the numbers of you guys with the same motor,

I drove today and gassed it more than I normally do from 1st - 3rd and once I hit 4,500RPM+ it felt like the car got a jolt of HP or something. Nothing crazy but a lot more than I had felt with it before

1998 civic ex coup 5 speed only mods are an intake

i shift at about 2500 to 4000 on the street and when messing around or racing i shift at redline.

I usually shift from first to second around 2,500 and all other gears 3,000
