so i need new wheel bearings but i'm confused about something...

what is the difference between a wheel hub bearing and a wheel bearing?

the hub is the assembly the bearing goes in, thus when it's one piece, it's called a hub bearing. someone please correct me if i'm wrong, that's just how I always understood it...

You've got it. It's like the housing unit of the bearing. Includes the mounting surface and studs for wheels. A wheel bearing is simply the little piece that rotates in the hub "housing".
