In Manila, that was the New Wave Era. Groups like New Order, Tears fo Fears, Erasure, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, Bolshoi, The Church, The Smiths, Depeche Mode... etc, are all in big swing. I liked "Don't do it" by new Order, "Matador" by Xmal Deutschland, "Happy Hour" by the Housemartins, "Ghost in you" by Psychedelic Furs, and "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order. Got a lot more, but just have no energy left to post..... :(

It's remarkable how many people don't know what bands are from the 70's the 80's and the 90's

99 Red Balloons (by 7 Seconds of course)

Soup Is Good Food, Saturday Night Holocaust, Kill the Poor...ok, everything the Dead Kennedys ever did including Rawhide.

Modern Man, Revenge, and Rise Above by Black Flag

Someone else mentioned Joy Division. "...new wave is what you tell people so they don't kick you out of the party and won't give you anymore coke..." yeah yeah, I still like Joy Division.

I want to say Tripping Daisy but I don't think they went national until the '90s. They were just a local band.

Steppin' Stone by Minor Threat. I really like Minor Threat even though I am not Straight Edge

I just don't hear rappers like KRS One anymore. Maybe I'm not listening to the right ones.

Yeah, I'm sure I just get cRappers that are MTVized driven solely by the money. No real social conscience or anything that doesn't make money.

Kinda sucks. I used to hear a lot more at poetry slams and stuff a few years ago.

Did somebody say Nirvana? That was so 90's

As far as 80's rap goes. I was into Young MC,Tone Loc,Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Beastie Boys.

Its funny back in 2000 I went on discovery of ol skool 80's rap. Like Public Enemy,RUN DMC and N.W.A.

Wow, more people contributed to this than I thought. :D Great bands too. I might have to go raid Greg's old CD collectiong (remeber, he grew up during that time). I should copy all of his CDs onto my hard drive or something.
