2001 Civic LX - How do I program the key?

I bought a 2001 Civic LX used a few months ago. I want another key and I don't want to pay the dealer $40 for it. If I get a blank with a transponder and have it cut is there a way to program it myself?

nope... if its only 40 bucks just shell out and be lucky its not 125 like i had to pay the stealership

Ace is the place

Just to let you know, I just had a copy made at Ace Hardware. They have the non-logo key blanks that they can program as long as you have a current working key. I paid $40 and didn't even try the dealer figuring they'd soak me. Not sure if they will have the best deal for ya, but it may be worth looking into.
