Need Help 89 Civic

I have a 1989 Honda Civic Hatchback and im having some issues with it. It keeps back firing up through the air intake. The blinking light under the passenger side suggests that its the air intake temperature sensor. i was wondering if it could cause it to do that or if it could be something else? Any help is appreciated!

yah on the cluster or are older hondas different .

The cel light is on the cluster but to read the code on older civics u have to count the blinks on the passenger side kick panel..
